TV Ad Volume to now be regulated!
by Dave Towne on Dec.19, 2011, under audio

Remember when you would be watching your favorite TV show and all of a sudden BAM THE COMMERCIAL IS SO LOUD YOU CAN’T EVEN THINK OR HEAR OTHER PEOPLE TALKING? Well now TV ads will now be regulated so that they cannot be louder than the program material they accompany. The original reason commercials were so loud was so you had to pay attention but also because they knew people would move to the kitchen or other room during commercials. To be heard, they would crank up the average volume of their ad to project to you in another room. I have actually seen products that were created in order to stabilize the volume change on your TV but they often didn’t work with over the air broadcasts or HD audio connections.
